Create the Perfect Mood With These 6 Fireplace Styling Ideas

When it comes to selling their property, it’s to the homeowner’s advantage to make potential buyers go “Wow!” when they step through the front door. Are you lucky enough to have a fireplace in your home? It can shine as the space’s focal point, especially if the room is decorated with it in mind. And, of course, leave quite an impression on visitors!

The fireplace can be more than a practical piece of equipment in a room, it can be the star of the show! Here’s how to do it.

Why Not Paint It Grey?

If you’re tired of your fireplace’s colour, why not change it (even if the facing material is stone or tile)? By opting for a shade of grey, you can ensure the look you create remains classic and timeless. Complete the decor with a few books on the mantel shelf, wicker baskets, houseplants and an area rug that directs the eye towards the crackling fire.

Install an Eye-Catching Mantel

The fireplace mantle is the ideal platform on which to display decorative accessories. Be careful, though: filling the surface with mismatched nick-nacks will leave it looking cluttered. Framed photos are okay, but only a few. Consider including a floor lamp, pampas grass and a macrame wall-hanging. Of course, a monochrome colour scheme continues to be the best way of creating a visually cohesive design.

Be Bold!

Painting a fireplace black or facing it with ebony-coloured stones or ceramic tiles is an excellent idea if you want high contrast. In this example, the homeowner has decided to combine different colours: from yellow to green, plus brown and black. With the addition of wooden elements, the resulting decor is eclectic, with the fireplace as the room’s centrepiece.

Create a Welcoming Farmhouse Ambiance

A fireplace can also be utilized to delineate two zones. It’s a splendid way of dividing rooms without erecting a partition wall. Above, the brick fireplace has been painted white but it’s wood mantel shelf only varnished to preserve the farmhouse style. Note the particularly pretty arched niche to store firewood.

You Can’t Go Wrong With Wood!

A wonderfully soft throw, a faux-fur rug, and a curvy chair form a fine trio that would work well in a variety decor styles. The cozy Scandinavian look achieved here cannot fail to please. But what really catches the eye is the rectangular fireplace with a black faceplate which stands out against the imitation wood tiles.

Say Yes to Colour!

The fireplace doesn’t need to be the heart of the room. In this design, to ensure the colourful furnishings and accessories truly stand out, a classic fireplace was the obvious choice. The resulting look would have felt visually overwhelming otherwise. While the magnificent pink velvet sofa is the star of this living room, the fireplace provides the necessary balance.

The fireplace is far more than a utilitarian device. Have you been inspired to refresh your home’s decor by revamping your fireplace?
